Video to DVD Conversion

(Find out all you need to know when it comes to converting your old home movies and video tapes into DVD format.)

The decision to transfer your old video over to the DVD format is a wise investment for many reasons. The short lifespan of video tape (10-20 years) means that much of the world`s video tape is reaching the end of its usefulness. This is one major reason to make the switch now while your older videos can still be effectively preserved.

DVD discs have a much longer life and they are less prone to many types of wear and tear. Traditional video tape came into constant contact with moving parts such as rollers, bearings, and posts and as a result sustained damage much quicker within the course of normal use. DVD`s are scanned with harmless low power lasers and therefore no damaging components come into contact with the data stored on them.

DVD`s don't sustain damage caused by magnetic fields and chemical corrosion like video tape either. They also aren't at risked for being mangled while inside a player like VHS inside a VCR. Plus you cannot mistakenly record over a DVD-R or R+ like you can with many VHS tapes.

DVD`s are recorded by means of a digital process which ensures consistent clear image quality. Video recorded from one DVD to another and to another does not lose it`s integrity. Video recorded from one VHS to another VHS loses some quality each time it is copied. Bets of all, a DVD has an expected lifespan of up to 30 to 100 years meaning it should last nearly a lifetime in many cases.
